Alaska Waters is an Alaska Native Business located in the City of Wrangell in Southeast Alaska. Alaskan locals guide all of our tours, thus they have extensive knowledge of the area and history. All of our tours are fully insured, safety is our highest priority in all activities.
Wrangell is the only community in Alaska to have been ruled by four nations, under three flags: The Tlingit Nation, Russian, British and the United States of America. Our community is rich in diverse history. The first record of inhabitants on Wrangell Island dates back 10,000 years and has unknown origins. The first known inhabitants of Wrangell Island were the Tlingits, whose history spans approximately 5,000 years. Your fully guided tour will give you a glimpse into the world of the Tlingit People. Once a great nation, the Tlingit territory spread from Dixon Entrance in the south (near the city of Ketchikan), to the northern-most Main Land connection to the Inside Passage (near the city of Yakutat). The territory the Tlingits reined over is comparable in size to the country of Norway.
Enjoy a personalized tour of Wrangell’s most popular attractions in a small group. Your Alaska Native guide will greet you with a traditional Tlingit introduction, fully narrate during the tour and share Tlingit legends, introducing guests to Wrangell’s past & present. Four great sites are visited via van/bus: Chief Shakes Island, Kik-Setti Totem Park, The Wrangell Museum, and Petroglyph Beach. The tour departs from and returns to City Dock, just outside Alaska Water’s Tour Desk & Gift Shop. Bottled water, umbrellas, and a souvenir petroglyph rubbing are available.
